To announce the 2013 theme of Limited Time Magic, Disney took over Times Square last week for an amazing launch event. Seven ice sculptures were built overnight in the middle of the Square, Disney characters, balloons and a Radio Disney crew entertained and wowed the crowds for the entire morning.
Taking 12 hours to build, the ice sculptures were amazing, especially the centerpiece of the display – a 25-foot castle that made an amazing backdrop with multi-colored lighting. Luckily, New York weather cooperated with a cooler morning in the 50s and 60s. The day’s warmup made the castle and other ice displays – a gorgeous coach a la Cinderella, Pooh and Christopher Robin – available only for a limited time!
Mickey and pals Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Cinderella and Merida, from the Disney-Pixar film “Brave,” joined in the morning celebration to launch Limited Time Magic. While 2013 is already a momentous year for Disney Parks – with New Fantasyland as the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history at Walt Disney World Resort and the first full year of a reimagined Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort – Disney today unveiled Limited Time Magic: 52 weeks of magical experiences big and small that appear, then disappear as the next special surprise debuts.
At a media breakfast in the morning, we learned about the launch and enjoyed an excellent panel discussion with Rene Syler (Goodenufmother), Leslie Ferrarro of Disney Parks and Resorts, Susan Newman, Ph.D., and Alpa Pandya of Sterling Brands. Of course, I loved seeing my friends: Susan Pazera (nyceast.macaronikid.com), Leanne J. (@leannej), Monica Storch (nyceast.macaronikid.com) and Amy Oztan (selfishmom.com).
